Wonk Bridge is proud and delighted to present to you the first in-earnest installment of the News Series Portraits of Young Founders. The News Series represents an entirely new paradigm of reporting, wherein subjects are assessed at the point at which they gain critical mass in the public imagination (i.e. when they’re “breaking”) and then surveyed carefully and with love over a successive period. When the majority of outlets have then surrendered their interest in a given subject, Wonk Bridge will still be there, following events to their resolution. Our intent in taking this approach is not merely to shock or to give a cursory sense of informedness to our readership, but to cultivate a much deeper understanding of issues. For it is with understanding that we can face the world, in all its complexity and difficulty, with a feeling of contentment and security.
There are few personalities that can disburse more inspiration to the casual onlooker than the entrepreneur’s — in their furious energy and strength of vision, theirs can be a daunting example, too. Portraits of Young Founders seeks to understand the vision and motivations of those who are habitually finding targets that few others can see. Across these ranging, far-reaching conversations we look to find out where the extraordinary drive of the entrepreneur comes from, in all its variety; the difficulties they’ve faced in chasing after their ambitions; and where they intend to go next.
We begin with a setter of remarkable precedents (not least for this series itself). Supriya Rai began her career in science and technology at the age of 2 harbouring ambitions to be an astronaut. Since then she has gone on to become an exceptionally precocious academic in the field of physics, a self-taught coding polyglot, a serial start-up founder, and an almost unbelievably prolific winner of hackathons. She is a Founder of the Future fellowship winner, and an outspoken and inclusive advocate of women in technology. She is currently the…
